Hay is a tiny market town in the Black Mountains on the Welsh Boarder with only 1300 inhabitants. Yet this small Welsh town has 39 bookshops and holds an International Literary Festival each year.
For 10 days each year, visitors from all over the UK, Europe and America join in the festival with novelists, actors, historians and philosophers.
There is a wide and varied programme, with appearances in 2005 from Goldie Hawn, Kazuo Ishiguro, Jane Fonda, Phillip Pullman and Spike Lee.
