Cardiff Airport has spent thousands of pounds on think tank sessions to come up with a new name, and has short-listed 'Gavin and Stacey Airport' according to press reports. Other names being considered include 'Zeta-Jones International' and 'Dame Shirley Bassey Gateway.'
The airport is said to want to emulate the success Liverpool Airport has enjoyed after taking the name of one of the city's most famous sons, John Lennon. This has given the airport global recognition and helped more than double the number of tourists flying to the city each year.
Should Cardiff Airport decide on a change, the new name will be picked by the marketing team along with the airport's partners and major stakeholders. Steve Hodges, a spokesperson for the hub said the final decision is expected to be made early next month.
