Man jailed for plane laser attack

A 21-year-old man has been jailed for shining a laser at a passenger plane preparing to land at Cardiff Airport. The pilot said the ‘dazzling green light’ caused a ‘momentary loss of concentration’ as the plane approached the airport on a flight from Dublin.
Hossein Hosseiny, of Llanrumney, Cardiff, briefly shone a laser into the cockpit of the aircraft, which was carrying 52 people, as it approached the airport on March 8. He pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to endangering the safety of an aircraft and a separate charge of supplying drugs, and was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court to a total of 10 months in jail.
Judge Eleri Rees said: 'The consequences of your actions could have been catastrophic. Those who deliberately aim such lasers into the cockpit of an aircraft or helicopter should expect a custodial sentence.’
