Opponents of plans to build an access road from the M4 to Cardiff Airport have welcomed news that it has been given a low priority by the Welsh Assembly, the South Wales Echo reports. Transport Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones is due to announce the Assembly’s preferred route to the airport early next year, although it is understood a decision could be delayed.
The road scheme has failed to make the Assembly’s ‘Top 10’ priority list of road investments, and was placed at number 19, whilst half-hourly trains for airport passengers is 24th in a list of 24 rail priorities.
Keith Stockdale, spokesman for Barry & Vale Friends of the Earth, told the newspaper: ‘The minister has listened to the well argued criticism from the No Ely Valley Airport Road action group, pointing out serious deficiencies in the options study and in consulting the public.'
