The new intra-Wales flights between Anglesey and Cardiff Airport is set to begin on May 8 with return flights for just under £100. But Highland Airways, the airline that will operate the flights, said that return journeys could sell for just over £30, depending on demand and how far in advance seats are booked.
The airline will provide two daily return flights from Monday to Friday, with one return flight in the morning and another in the afternoon. The flights will leave Cardiff Airport at 07:30 and leave Anglesey on the return journey at 08:55. In the afternoon the plane leaves Cardiff at 16:15 and Anglesey at 17:40. On a Friday the afternoon timetable is moved forward an hour to allow for an earlier evening closure of the airfield at RAF Valley, on Anglesey.
The airline will receive an annual subsidy from the Welsh Assembly, thought to be in the region of £0.8 to £1.8m, to operate the flights. In return a public service obligation is written into the deal preventing the firm increasing the price of a single journey beyond £49.99. Air passenger duty will not be charged on the service because of the smaller size of the aircraft - it will carry only 18 passengers.
