BA cuts engineering jobs

British Airways plans to make 32 redundancies at one of its engineering plants in Wales. A 30-day consultation has begun at Avionics Engineering in Pontyclun, Rhondda Cynon Taf.
BA said the most difficult trading conditions the aviation industry has ever known meant it was looking to identify cost savings across the business. It is currently in talks with unions over pay, working practices and 3700 job cuts across its 40,000 staff. It has reduced capacity and grounded planes, which has resulted in a reduced workload at the south Wales plant.
A spokesman for BA said: ‘We remain committed to providing quality, skilled jobs in Wales, and employ more than 1,000 people at our three Welsh facilities.’ The airline has two other engineering facilities in south Wales including British Airways Maintenance Cardiff (BAMC) at Cardiff Airport.
