Rail bus link to end
15.04.10
The rail transfer bus that links Cardiff Airport with its nearest train station will be withdrawn at the end of May, and may be replaced by taxis. The airport say they can no longer afford the £100,000 annual subsidy for the service, which started in 2005 following the opening of a new station at Rhoose specifically aimed at taking passengers to the airport by train.
The bus was launched after the £17m line carrying trains between Cardiff and Bridgend opened in 2005. However, the airport said it carries less than than one thousand passengers a week. It stated funding would finish at the end of next month.
The Welsh Government stated it will work to see if the 2-mile bus link can be saved. Vale of Glamorgan council stated it was disappointed with the move, however a local taxi firm could provide an ad hoc service for the route.
