Airport staff to receive lifesaving training
12.01.11
Staff at Cardiff Airport are to be trained in life-saving techniques as part of a 'first responder' scheme. The Welsh Ambulance Service will train volunteers so that they can immediately respond to emergencies. They will be trained to administer basic first aid, recognise certain cardiac conditions and also to use a defibrillator.
A spokesman for the ambulance service said: ‘Cardiff Airport serves two million passengers a year, so that there is quite a busy community here every day. We hope to have an active team at the airport to give passengers and staff facing life-threatening illnesses on site a valuable first response. The faster life support skills get to a patient, the better their outlook is, a prognosis all first responders are ready to support.’
