New York flight talks break down
10.06.10
Hopes of establishing direct flight links between Cardiff Airport and New York have been dashed after talks between the hub and US airline Delta broke down. Discussions had been taking place about establishing a daily link to JFK Airport in New York, but yesterday the airline said it had ‘no plans’ to launch such a service. The airline declined to comment on reports that it had asked the Welsh Assembly Government to underwrite any losses made by the service.
The Assembly Government said it was ‘committed’ to supporting a link to New York, and is keen to promote routes for business travellers. A spokesman for the said: ‘We would like to see a direct transatlantic service, but in the meantime we were pleased that Aer Lingus recently increased the frequency of their Dublin services with onward connections to New York, Boston, Chicago and Orlando.'
