Flights between Wales and Cornwall take again off today, almost a year after a previous service was axed, when SkyBus launches its once-daily service between Cardiff Airport and Newquay, despite a previous service being scrapped due to poor customer demand.
The service will operate daily from Monday to Friday with seats for a maximum of 16 passengers. Fares are from £70 for the return trip and executives at the airline say the 40-minute journey will provide a ‘reliable and quick’ alternative to the four-hour car journey between Wales and Cornwall.
Last April, Air Southwest announced it would abolish its route between Cardiff and Newquay because passengers had not reached expected levels. But Jeff Marston, chief executive of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company which operates Skybus, said reopening the route provided the ideal development opportunity.
He said, ‘We know the route has been popular in the past, with another airline operating flights from 2005 to 2007. We are delighted to reinstate it and offer a convenient, reliable and quick service for the people of Wales and Cornwall.’
