New book details airport history
09.01.12
A book has been released that details the history of Cardiff Airport through photographs. 2012 is the 70th anniversary of the first operations at the airport and 'Cardiff Airport At Rhoose: 70 Years Of Aviation History' by Geoff Jones was published to celebrate the landmark last month. It is the first dedicated photographic history of Cardiff Airport.
The airport began life as wartime airfield RAF Rhoose, officially opening on April 7, 1942. Home of Cambrian Airways and used by a varied mix of international airlines, the airport has been continually upgraded since civilian flight in 1952. It has grown to become one of the UK’s major civil airports handling around 1.5 million passengers a year, and ranked 20th amongst UK commercial airports.
