Air Wales to lose two routes from Cardiff airport
08.12.05
Air Wales has been dealt a blow after bmi announced it was ending its contract with the airline to run its lucrative Belfast and Glasgow routes from Cardiff Airport. The airlines low cost sister airline, bmibaby, will operate the routes instead.
Air Wales currently operates 5 routes for bmi from Cardiff International - to Belfast International, Glasgow, Paris, Jersey and Cork. However, from next March low-cost carrier bmibaby will fly the Belfast and Glasgow routes.
But Swansea-based Air Wales has launched a counter offensive, by announcing it will launch its own Cardiff International to Belfast service in competition with bmibaby next March. Its new twice-daily route to Belfast City Airport will be aimed at the business market.
Air Wales will continue to operate bmi's Jersey, Paris and Cork services from Cardiff.
