Villagers in the Vale of Glamorgan are celebrating a climbdown by the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) over plans to upgrade roads to Cardiff Airport.
The WAG wanted to trunk the A48 from Culverhouse Cross to Sycamore Cross, and parts of 3 roads leading from there to the airport. This would have transferred responsibility for the roads from the local council to the WAG.
However, after a public inquiry, Andrew Davies, the Minister responsible for transport networks, has conceded the roads should not be trunked. Instead, he has brought forward a scheme to improve road access from the M4 to the airport.
