Cardiff Airport has had thousands of extra passengers over the weekend after runway problesm cause ten airlines to cancel flights from Bristol airport. Many of the flights due to operate from Bristol - including 60% of easyJet's services - were transferred to Cardiff. A spokesman for the airport said that it had three times the usual number of passengers using the airport yesterday - more than 10,000 passengers compared to a more usual 3,500.
Bristol Airport hopes to reopen its runway this morning after closing it overnight for emergency work, however many of the airlines who have moved their flights to Cardiff have said that they will not transfer them back today, giving another days passenger boost to Cardiff. The airport announced last week a record 2 million passengers passed through its terminal in 2006, up 13% on 2005.
