Airport talking to Emirates
07.06.10
Cardiff Airport is talking to middle eastern giant Emirates – a key target for some time - about the launch of a direct service from Dubai to the airport, due to increasing demand for flights from Wales to the Middle East, according to press reports. The airport has said that it would need some ‘assistance’ from the Welsh Assembly Government to get such as service off the ground, presumably route development grants.
Emirates has one of the most comprehensive networks of any non-UK airline into and out of Britain, with services to Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Newcastle. Steve Hodgetts, Cardiff Airport’s Business Development Director, said ‘we know that eventually Emirates will go on the expansion trail.’
