Lake to be drained over Cardiff Airport swan fears
06.10.10
A lake near Cardiff Airport is being drained to deter swans from making it their home because they pose a threat to passing planes, the South Wales Echo reports. But the claims that the birds pose a danger to planes flying have been rejected by a swan rescue expert.
The Knap Lake in Barry will be drained this week as part of a cleaning operation and a strategy to reduce the number of swans living there. The theory is that, by periodically draining the lake, fewer swans will return each time it is refilled. There are currently aound 20 swans living at the lake.
