Access improvement scheme moves a step closer
04.06.11
A £26.5m scheme to improve access to Cardiff Airport took a small step forward this week when the Welsh Government was given permission by the European Commission (EC) to use £5m of public money to part fund the project. Going ahead without EC approval would have broken competition rules.
However, a spokesman for the WAG said that a final decision on the scheme had not yet been taken, as there is a new Minister in charge since the application to the EC was made. Responsibility for transport has moved to Carl Sargeant, who will now discuss with fellow ministers whether the money is available. Only then could discussions take place with the airport, who would be expected to fund the other £21.5m.
