New name and terminal development announced
02.03.09
Cardiff Airport's terminal is to be redeveloped from later this year. Work is to start in October with the redevelopment of the front of the terminal and approach areas, and inside the terminal. In addition the airport is dropping the 'international' from its name - it was officially known as Cardiff International Airport, but will now just be Cardiff Airport (which is what most people called it anyway!)
The terminal redevelopment will also see the arrivals and departures halls linked into one large common area, with new food and retail services and a more contemporary design throughout. This stage of redevelopment will be completed in time for next summer, well in advance of the Ryder Cup, which will be held in Wales in October 2010.
The name ‘Cardiff Airport’ and ‘Maes Awyr Caerdydd’ will also replace Cardiff International Airport as the hubs official designation from today. The name will be accompanied by a new visual identity and logo.
