Big passenger drop
01.10.09
Cardiff Airport has fallen to its lowest place in the UK airport rankings for 4 years, the Western Mail reports. It fell behind Southampton to 20th in the latest figures released by the Civil Aviation Authority for the year ending July 2009, with passenger numbers of 1.78m, nearly 300,000 (or 17%) down on the previous year.
Cardiff has only fallen that low in the rankings once in the last 20 years, for a brief spell during 2005. For the year from July 2008 to June 2009, it was one position higher at 19th. Its nearest rival, Bristol, had passenger numbers in the year to July down 562,000 (less than 10%) to 5.6 million.
